Position Overview:
Schreiber Foods is seeking a Senior Processing Engineer to lead process optimization efforts in the upstream dairy processing area, including blending, standardization, heat treatment, filtration, and sanitation. You will work cross-functionally with operations, quality, capital engineering, and more to drive performance and food safety standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role ideal for engineers experienced in dairy, beverage, or other fluid-related food industries.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Optimization & Technical Ownership
Act as subject matter expert in fluid processing systems (dairy preferred).
Evaluate and optimize processing operations for:
Yield enhancement
Cycle time improvement
Waste and risk reduction
Cost savings and process capability
Implement changes in standardization, heat treatment, filtration, and sanitation processes.
Partner with data science and analytics teams to guide data-driven decisions.
Capital Projects & Equipment:
Collaborate with project engineers to scope and execute medium-sized capital projects.
Support equipment redesigns and upgrades for performance and regulatory compliance.
Lead or support commissioning of new systems or modifications.
Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain accurate documentation: SOPs, CCPs, P&IDs, process manuals.
Standardize and share best practices across facilities.
Own and audit Process Control Points (PCPs) and Critical Control Points (CCPs).
Ensure adherence to HACCP, GMP, FDA, USDA, and internal food safety standards.
Safety & Risk Management:
Perform FMEA, HAZOP, and LOPA assessments.
Develop strategies to reduce process safety risks.
Ensure process designs meet OSHA and company safety standards.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Interface daily with production, maintenance, QA, engineering, and supply chain teams.
Partner with Controls/Capital Engineering and Reliability Engineering to enhance uptime and automation capabilities.
Support internal audits, troubleshooting events, and root cause investigations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
(Chemical, Process, Mechanical, or similar – Chemical/Process preferred)
8+ years of experience in process engineering, ideally in food, beverage, dairy, or fluid-based industries
Knowledge in:
Heat treatment (pasteurization, aseptic)
Blending and standardization
CIP/SIP systems
Filtration/separation techniques
Experience with AutoCAD P&IDs, instrumentation, and PID loop tuning
Understanding of food safety and process safety frameworks:
HACCP, GMP, QMS, FDA, USDA
OSHA, FMEA, HAZOP, LOPA
Comfortable executing capital projects and cross-functional collaboration
Willingness to travel up to 10%
PE license is a plus (not required)
